Binance Scrambles After $6.3bn Hack Linked to Pyongyang

Binance is reeling after a $6.3bn hack that analysts say bears the fingerprints of North Korea’s Lazarus Group.   The attackers allegedly compromised Binance’s hot wallet signing system, siphoning billions before laundering the assets through Bitcoin and other tokens.   TRM Labs and Chainalysis both identified the group “with high confidence,” adding to a long list of suspected North Korean cyber heists.   Binance says 80% of stolen assets have been secured, but the rest remains unaccounted for. Co‑CEO Richard Teng admitted the breach was broader than first thought.   The hack highlights the vulnerability of even the biggest crypto platforms — and the growing sophistication of state‑backed cybercrime.

Mbadi Slams Opposition for Disrespecting Kalonzo

CS John Mbadi has accused opposition leaders of failing to respect Kalonzo Musyoka after the Wiper boss was heckled at the Linda Mwananchi launch.   Mbadi said the incident revealed a lack of discipline among younger politicians, contrasting Kalonzo’s long career with Edwin Sifuna’s relatively recent entry into public life. “The treatment Kalonzo received showed a clear lack of respect,” Mbadi argued.   He used the moment to urge Kalonzo to join Ruto’s government, saying his experience would help form the next administration. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga echoed Mbadi’s sentiments, questioning why younger leaders would look down on Kalonzo.   The clash highlights generational tensions within the opposition as succession debates heat up ahead of 2027.

Cheruiyot Targets Sifuna as Gachagua Floats Deputy Role

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has fired a fresh salvo at the opposition, dismissing Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid as “easy work” for UDA.   His remarks come as Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President, has said he is open to deputising Sifuna, while insisting he remains a serious contender himself. Gachagua has maintained that the opposition must field a single candidate to avoid a run‑off.   Cheruiyot’s comments cast Ichung’wah as UDA’s frontman, while portraying Sifuna and Gachagua as a weak ticket. The jibe reflects UDA’s confidence but also exposes the delicate balancing act within the opposition as succession negotiations intensify.

ODM Rally Security Tight as Police Promise Protection

Police in Nairobi have rolled out a sweeping security plan ahead of ODM’s Jacaranda rally, promising to protect participants while maintaining public order.   Regional Commander Mohamud said officers have been instructed to safeguard law‑abiding citizens and nearby businesses, while responding firmly to breaches of peace.   The deployment includes patrol teams, operational checkpoints, and surveillance posts to monitor crowd movements. Authorities stressed the importance of balancing civic freedoms with public safety as political leaders prepare to address governance issues and mobilize grassroots support.   Residents have been reassured that traffic and security will be managed to minimize disruption.

Villa vs. Carragher: Legal Fight Over Emery Remarks

Aston Villa have gone to war with Jamie Carragher after the pundit dismissed their ambitions and insulted their supporters.   Carragher claimed Emery would leave Villa for Manchester United, telling fans to “shut the f* up” and insisting Villa could never match United’s stature.   Villa’s hierarchy reacted furiously, with chairman Nassef Sawiris confirming legal action. “We will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football,” the statement read.   The row highlights the growing tension between clubs and pundits, as Villa fight to be recognized as a rising force rather than a stepping stone.

Mudavadi’s Credibility Questioned After Gachagua’s Claim

Rigathi Gachagua has taken direct aim at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, alleging he sold his ANC party to President Ruto for Ksh20 million.   “Someone who sold a political party for Ksh20 million is lecturing Sifuna in what capacity? Who are you?” Gachagua asked, dismissing Mudavadi’s authority in opposition debates.   Mudavadi’s ANC officially merged with UDA in January 2025, with party officials appointed to new positions under the ruling coalition. But Gachagua’s claim of a cash transaction has added a sensational twist to the merger story.   While the allegation remains unverified, it has sparked fresh scrutiny of Mudavadi’s role in Kenya’s shifting political landscape.

Linda Mwananchi Launch Shows Strength, But Absences Hint at Cracks

Edwin Sifuna’s unveiling of the Linda Mwananchi headquarters was designed to showcase unity, with Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and Babu Owino all in attendance.   But the absence of Winnie Odinga and James Orengo added intrigue. Winnie is eyeing Nairobi Senate, while Orengo is building his own Liberal Democratic Party and pushing for transparent nominations.   Their no‑shows suggest that while Linda Mwananchi is gaining momentum, fragmentation remains a risk. The November 13 convention will be a crucial test of whether the movement can consolidate or whether rival ambitions will pull it apart.   For now, Sifuna has the spotlight — but the missing faces remind Kenyans that opposition unity is far from guaranteed.
