Ruth and Winnie’s Absence at Jacaranda Fuels Talk of ODM Family Split

The conspicuous absence of Kisumu Woman Rep Ruth Odinga and EALA MP Winnie Odinga from ODM’s Jacaranda rally has stirred speculation about a brewing family‑level rift inside the party.

Locally, ODM supporters in Kisumu and Homa Bay were quick to notice the no‑show. Traders at Kibuye market openly asked why Raila’s closest kin skipped the climax of Mwezi wa Baba, a month‑long programme meant to honor his legacy. “If Baba’s own family is missing, what message does that send to the rest of us?” one supporter asked.

Both Ruth and Winnie have recently voiced discomfort with ODM’s cooperation with President Ruto’s broad‑based government. Their absence now adds weight to whispers that the Odinga household itself is split on the party’s direction.

Winnie’s declared ambition for the Nairobi Senate seat in 2027 further complicates matters. Her positioning could align her with Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has already staged rallies at the same Jacaranda venue. Ruth, meanwhile, has been more guarded but equally critical of ODM’s current strategy.

For ODM, the optics are damaging. A rally meant to showcase unity instead highlighted cracks at the very top. For supporters in Nyanza, the question is no longer whether ODM can hold together nationally — but whether Raila’s own family remains united behind the party he built.

Ruto Ally Turns Against Kindiki, Says He Only Campaigns in Meru Villages

Ruto Ally Turns Against Kindiki, Says He Only Campaigns in Meru Villages Confusion has emerged in Kenya Kwanza after Ruto's ally turned against Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Sirisia MP John Waluke accused Kindiki of leading village campaigns. He spoke at an ODM function in Kakamega. Waluke is the chair of Western MPs Caucus. He said Kindiki was elected to visit all regions including Western and North Eastern. He added that Kindiki has not visited Nyeri, Kiambu, Kirinyaga and Laikipia. "He is the deputy president for a quarter of the mountain," Waluke said. Waluke asked President Ruto to drop Kindiki in 2027. He wants Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya as running mate. He said Western Kenya has numbers to deliver victory. Kindiki is facing pressure in Mt Kenya. Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has ...

Miguna Miguna's Latest Reports: The NIS and KK paid bloggers, including those pretending to be protesters, are desperately trying to cause divisions

Miguna Miguna recently made a statement regarding the actions of the Kenya Kwaza government, alleging that they are actively seeking out individuals to disrupt the protests of the Gen Zs. According to Miguna Miguna, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Kenya Kwaza (KK) have resorted to paying bloggers, some of whom are posing as protesters, in an attempt to sow discord and create divisions within the protesting community. Miguna Miguna emphasized that the issues being protested by Kenyans are not limited to a specific generation, as corruption, abductions, torture, and extrajudicial killings affect all citizens, regardless of age or background. In his statement, Miguna Miguna urged the people of Kenya to remain united and not allow themselves to be divided by the tactics of those seeking to cause confusion and discord. He emphasized that the struggles faced by the citizens of Kenya are shared by all, and that the country belongs to everyone. Miguna Miguna called for so...

Milk, Not Manifestos: Why Senator Tabitha Karanja Says She Quit UDA

When politicians change parties, the explanation is usually about principle, loyalty or the party's direction. Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has given a far more everyday reason for leaving President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP): the lack of milk on the market. Karanja named the milk situation as one of the reasons behind her decision. It is an unusually specific grievance for a defection announcement, and it puts a household product at the center of a political story that is normally told through power struggles and alliances. Her move comes hours after Gathoni Wamuchomba announced she was leaving UDA to defend her position on another ticket. Both exits point to the Mt Kenya region, where UDA has been losing members to the DCP ahead of next year's general election. What remains unclear is how much the milk complaint weighs against the other factors that typically drive such moves, and whe...
