Woman Shot Dead in Dar es Salaam Home as Husband Reportedly Surrenders to Police

A quiet morning in Bunju A, Dar es Salaam, turned tragic after a woman was found dead inside her home following a reported shooting involving her husband.

Jennifer Kweka was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head at the couple's residence on Mkoani Street in Senzere on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The incident reportedly happened at around 5:15am, leaving neighbours trying to make sense of what had happened inside the house.

The situation came to light after the couple's housemaid alerted people nearby. Agustino Shirima, chairwoman of the neighbourhood unit, said she received a call about the incident and went straight to the residence, where several neighbours had already gathered outside.

Shirima said she spoke to the housemaid, who told her that Jennifer had been shot by her husband, Raulent Kweka. She then contacted officers at Mabwepande Police Station, who arrived at the scene. According to Shirima, Jennifer was found lying beside the bed when authorities entered the house, and officers secured the area, leaving the body undisturbed as they awaited further instructions.

Raulent was no longer at the residence by the time local officials arrived. Shirima said the housemaid told her he had taken a bag with him before leaving. Information later emerged that he had allegedly gone to Kawe Police Station and surrendered himself. Shirima stressed, however, that she had not personally witnessed the reported surrender and could not independently confirm it.

Police investigations are expected to establish what happened before the shooting and what may have led to the fatal incident.

The circumstances surrounding the couple's relationship have also drawn attention. Shirima said Social Welfare Department officials had previously delivered letters to the household, which she helped pass along. While she said she did not know their contents, she later learned from the woman who delivered them that Jennifer had reportedly lodged a complaint involving her husband. Shirima said she did not know the details of that complaint or what might have led to the confrontation that ended in Jennifer's death.

A neighbour, Aisha Mwenda, said the sound of a single gunshot interrupted the early morning quiet, though she initially had no idea where it had come from. She only later learned the sound had allegedly come from the Kweka residence.

The incident has left residents shaken as authorities continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Jennifer's death.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment

R obert Alai has recently expressed his views on the matter of former governors being appointed by President William Ruto. According to Alai, governors who have served more than two terms should not be considered for any appointments. He further emphasized that President Ruto should avoid appointing anyone who has already served as governor for two terms, suggesting that this group should be completely excluded from consideration. This stance has sparked a significant amount of discussion among Kenyans on various social media platforms, with many individuals sharing their perspectives on the issue. Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development.
