Zimbabwean tycoon Wicknell Chivayo was quietly using his wealth to transform his hometown of Chivhu, according to new details showing he was personally funding the construction of a high school and a sports stadium before he died.
The information was shared on X by @snowballOfficial on October 7, 2026. It shows a side of the businessman that went beyond the social media giveaways he was widely known for.
Chivayo, popularly known as Sir Wicknell, was born and raised in Chivhu. His connection to the town remained a defining part of his identity even as his business empire grew. The two projects point to a longer-term vision for the community that shaped him.
Both were still under construction when he died, leaving their future uncertain in the immediate aftermath.
His brother, known as G6 Chivhayo, has since committed to completing both projects as a tribute to Chivayo. The pledge signals that the family intends to honour his commitments to the town.
Chivayo's death has drawn emotional scenes in Zimbabwe. His ex-wife was visibly emotional at his night vigil, and mourners gathered at his home to pay their respects ahead of the burial.
