Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has addressed criticism directed at him, as political exchanges between him and President William Ruto continue to draw attention.
Speaking on Saturday during the funeral service of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of PLP leader Martha Karua, Uhuru told mourners he was unbothered by the names being used against him.
"I hear some people insulting me & calling me sponsor, a rebel leader, a drunkard, or whatever they may call me tomorrow. You are wasting your time," Uhuru said.
His remarks come against the backdrop of recent public exchanges in which Ruto has accused Uhuru of sponsoring opposition activities and referred to him as a rebel leader. Uhuru had previously responded to the "sponsor" label at a funeral in Murang'a in September, where he jokingly referred to himself as "sponyo."
At the Gichugu funeral, Uhuru joined several political leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, Fred Matiang'i, Eugene Wamalwa, and Ndindi Nyoro, to mourn Mwalimu Jackson.
Uhuru's latest remarks come as political activity ahead of the 2027 elections continues to fuel public debate.
