Sh700 Debt Spirals Into Double Tragedy in Migori as Mob Kills Suspect Before Guilt Is Established

A Sh700 debt has ended in a double tragedy in Migori County after a woman who left home to collect the money was found dead, and the man she had gone to see was later killed by an angry mob, before police could establish whether he had any role in her death.

Kennedy Onyango Juma left his home in Kamunga Village on the morning of September 30, 2026, leaving his wife, Mercela Anyango, behind. According to a report by Daily Nation, Anyango had told her husband she was going to collect Sh700 from their neighbour, Oburu Owino, to help settle some bills.

What began as an ordinary attempt to recover a small debt soon turned tragic. When Juma later went to look for his wife at Owino's home, he found that neither she nor Owino was there, and he headed back toward his own home. On the way, he found his wife's body lying in a nearby sugarcane plantation and raised the alarm. Residents gathered at the scene as news of her death spread through the village.

Suspicion quickly turned to Owino, with some residents believing he could have been involved in Anyango's death. Uriri Sub-County Police Commander Ali Bashir said officers were alerted that residents intended to attack him after learning he had gone to Uriri Market. A mob reportedly traced him there and attacked him with crude weapons. He was seriously injured and later died.

Police have not established that Owino killed Anyango. Bashir said investigations remain ongoing and that no witness has come forward reporting having seen him commit the killing.

The bodies of both Anyango and Owino were taken to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment

R obert Alai has recently expressed his views on the matter of former governors being appointed by President William Ruto. According to Alai, governors who have served more than two terms should not be considered for any appointments. He further emphasized that President Ruto should avoid appointing anyone who has already served as governor for two terms, suggesting that this group should be completely excluded from consideration. This stance has sparked a significant amount of discussion among Kenyans on various social media platforms, with many individuals sharing their perspectives on the issue. Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development. This perspective reflects...
