Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has claimed that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will support President William Ruto, drawing fresh attention to Kenya's shifting 2027 political alignments.
Olekina shared a post stating simply: "Jubilee will support President Ruto…" The claim quickly drew reactions from social media users questioning Jubilee's position and the broader political implications of the move.
Zack Kiarie linked the discussion to Jubilee leaders Jeremiah Kioni and Ngunjiri Wambugu, alongside Matiang'i, writing: "That's very true. Kioni, Ngunjiri Wambugu and Matiang'i dine in statehouse." Kibui Gatundu suggested Olekina could be especially well-informed on Jubilee affairs given his proximity to Kihuria Wa Ndorongo.
Newton Masai questioned Jubilee's position while tying the discussion to ODM and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, also referencing the recent meeting between President Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Erustus Kombulu questioned what he described as "fake ODM," referencing political movements involving the United Democratic Alliance.
Others focused on the Narok angle specifically. Nchoe Glenn questioned Olekina's own position on Ruto, given earlier claims that he opposed the President. Hillary Kirui predicted Jubilee would also win the Narok County gubernatorial seat, while Lekishon Lemian questioned how Jubilee's support for Ruto would actually benefit Narok residents.
Olekina is the Senator for Narok County and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement, serving his second term after first being elected in 2017 and winning re-election in 2022 with 135,180 votes, both times on an ODM ticket. In the Senate, he serves as Minority Whip, a position tied to ODM and the Azimio coalition, with Sifuna, also of ODM, serving as his deputy.
A Kenyan politician, businessman, and advocate for Maasai community interests, Olekina has focused much of his political work on land rights, cultural issues, and matters affecting Narok residents. He has developed a reputation for outspokenness in Senate debates, with his exchanges across party lines occasionally drawing public attention.
Despite ODM's broad-based cooperation arrangement with the Ruto administration, Olekina has continued to publicly identify as an ODM member and remains involved in discussions over the party's strategy ahead of 2027. In 2026, he publicly backed ODM leader Oburu Oginga amid internal party divisions and called for unity within ODM.
