Pregnant Woman Dies, Husband Injured After Couple Allegedly Thrown From Moving Police Vehicle

A pregnant woman has died and her husband suffered serious injuries after the couple were allegedly thrown from a moving police vehicle in Kirinyaga County.

The incident reportedly happened at night in Mugamba Ciura Village, Mwea East, under circumstances that remain unclear. Initial reports indicate police officers had detained the couple before driving off, though what happened inside the vehicle has not been established.

Witnesses claimed the couple were later ejected from the moving vehicle along a local road. The pregnant woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, while her husband reportedly suffered fractures and other serious injuries.

News of the incident sparked anger among residents, with some gathering at the scene to demand answers. Reports indicate protesters blocked parts of the road with logs and burning tyres as tensions rose over the circumstances of the woman's death.

Local leaders have called for a thorough investigation into what happened before, during, and after the alleged ejection, and have demanded accountability if officers are found responsible for any wrongdoing.

The surviving husband was taken to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment. The woman's body was moved to a local mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to help establish the precise cause of death.

Police commanders have reportedly sent investigators to examine the incident and determine whether officers were involved. The allegations have also renewed calls for the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to conduct an independent inquiry. Until investigations are complete, the circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries remain allegations requiring verification.
