Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has rejected claims that he and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i are being bankrolled by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He addressed the matter on October 3, 2026, during a live interview on Lightcast TV Kenya, in a session bringing together journalists from Meru and Tharaka Nithi media stations. A journalist put the claim to him directly, noting that some people believe he and Matiang'i had been brought together by a sponsor in Uhuru, an allegation that has circulated widely online and in political circles as opposition activity grows ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nyoro dismissed the claim as pure political propaganda. He told journalists that the recent joint engagements involving him and Matiang'i were open platforms welcoming participants from across the political divide. According to the People's Party leader, attendees came from different parties and were each given an equal chance to speak and present their agenda, with speaking rights not limited to members of his own party.
His response was aimed at presenting the meetings as inclusive civic forums rather than part of a sponsored opposition project. The "sponsor" claim has become a common talking point among Kenya Kwanza-aligned voices, often used against critics and emerging opposition figures in the Mt Kenya region, and Nyoro's rebuttal was an attempt to push back against the narrative of external control.
The interview adds to his broader recent effort to define his role outside both the ruling administration and the established opposition camps, saying his focus remains on wider conversations about the country's direction.
