Kisii Businesswoman Shot Dead by Boyfriend Before He Turns Gun on Himself

A relationship that was headed toward a breakup instead ended in two deaths, leaving families and friends mourning Veronica Kerubo Morande and Vincent Mosioma Michieka.

The incident happened at around 11pm, when most businesses in Kisii Township had closed for the night. Veronica, a 30-year-old businesswoman, was still at her shop, Credit Building Glassmatt, where she ran a growing business dealing in glass, building fixtures, and MDF boards, alongside two lorries she had invested in to transport goods across the region.

That night, Vincent reportedly went to the shop where Veronica was working. The two were said to have been in a relationship that people close to them described as having become complicated. According to reports, Veronica had allegedly discovered that Vincent was married with two children and had begun distancing herself, intending to end things.

Police investigations indicate an argument broke out after Vincent allegedly accessed Veronica's phone and found messages from another man. Investigators said he then produced a Beretta pistol and shot her. The gunfire reportedly drew the attention of people nearby, including a boda boda rider who raised the alarm.

Veronica was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Vincent was also taken there after the incident. Both died from their injuries.

Police recovered a Beretta pistol, reported serial number PX7788F, along with ammunition and spent cartridges, which were taken for forensic examination as detectives continue investigating the circumstances.

Veronica was remembered by those who knew her as a hardworking businesswoman determined to build something of her own. Vincent was reportedly also involved in his family's glass business.
