Kenya Airways Passenger Dies After Medical Emergency on Nairobi-Lagos Flight

A passenger travelling aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos died after suffering a medical emergency shortly before the aircraft landed in Nigeria.

Kenya Airways confirmed the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during a scheduled flight between the two cities. According to the airline, the passenger became unresponsive at around 9:20pm Nigerian local time, approximately 20 minutes before the aircraft was due to land.

Cabin crew responded immediately upon noticing the passenger's condition, administering first aid in line with their training and following required emergency procedures as the flight continued toward Lagos. Despite their efforts, the situation remained critical. Upon landing at 9:41pm, medical personnel were already on standby, but after examination, doctors confirmed the passenger had died.

Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, saying it was deeply saddened by the incident, and apologised to other passengers for any inconvenience caused during the flight. The airline said it was respecting the privacy and dignity of those affected and would not disclose further personal details about the deceased.

The carrier added that it is providing necessary support and working closely with the passenger's family, local authorities, and aviation regulators following the incident.

Aviation experts note that cabin crew are trained to handle in-flight medical emergencies, though outcomes depend on the severity of the condition and the time available before landing. Kenya Airways has pledged transparency and cooperation with all relevant stakeholders as the matter is reviewed.
