Burnt in His Car in Ngong Matasia: What Police Know, and What They Still Cannot Say

Nearly a week after a 74-year-old man was found burnt to death inside his car on a private farm in Ngong Matasia, Kajiado County, investigators are still working with more questions than answers. Police said they have yet to establish a motive and are considering different theories, and it is not immediately clear whether the case involves suicide or murder.

Some details raise questions. The man left his mobile phone and identification card at home before driving out of his compound hours before his body was found. Witnesses told police his hands were tied as the body burned. A gas cylinder was found inside the white Toyota Fielder, which police believe caught fire at around 7.30pm, about 50 metres off the Olkeri-Matasia Road. Members of the public alerted police, and the body was discovered at about 10.30pm on October 2, 2026.

Other details leave gaps. The pathologist could not establish whether there had been a physical struggle because the body had no remaining skin cover. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police are still investigating how the vehicle caught fire. Body fluid samples have been collected for further forensic analysis, and DNA samples from two family members will help confirm his identity.

The man, who hailed from Gesusu in Kisii County, lived in Ngong Matasia and ran a local clinic with one of his children. For his family, the forensic results will determine when they can proceed with funeral arrangements.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment
