Tension erupted in Bumula, Bungoma County, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after uniformed officers reportedly seized motorcycles and detained several boda boda riders along a public road.
According to the report, the riders had been chanting "Sisi Ndio Sifuna" and singing "Wantam" songs, slogans associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's political movement. Bumula MP Jack Wamboka reportedly intervened during the operation near a Shell petrol station and confronted officers as young men were led toward security vehicles.
Wamboka questioned the legality of the arrests and asked Bungoma County Police Commander Anderson Njagi to release the impounded motorcycles. He argued that police should not be used to suppress political expression, which is protected by the Constitution.
The incident follows the October 4 launch of The Equitable Party, which Sifuna has adopted as his vehicle for the 2027 General Election. The "Wantam" slogan, meaning "one term," has gained popularity among young people in parts of the country.
The report did not carry a statement from the police explaining why the riders were detained or whether any charges would be filed. The account is based on a video shared on Facebook, and the number of riders held and motorcycles seized has not been confirmed.
