A Salon Visit, a Trip to Town, and a Dead Couple by Morning: The Final Day of Viola and Joseph Kirui

On Saturday, October 3, Joseph Kirui took his wife Viola to a salon for a hair retouch. According to Nation Media reports cited in the story, they spent much of the day together in the village, travelled to Bomet town, and returned home in the evening. By the next morning, both were dead.

Joseph, 40, was a nurse at Longisa County Referral Hospital. Viola was a primary school teacher. They were found a few metres apart in their compound in Segerot Village, Nyangores Ward, and police are treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide. The family lived in the main house while their two younger children slept in a smaller house nearby. The couple leaves behind three young children.

The ordinary day sits uneasily beside what people close to the couple described. Cheboin Sub-location Assistant Chief Daisy Sawe said they had frequent disagreements that relatives tried to resolve. Pastor Simon Tonui of Segerot African Gospel Church said the church had also stepped in before, when Viola once left home to stay with her parents before the two reconciled.

Investigators are still working. A postmortem on Viola found traces of a substance suspected to be toxic, and samples have been sent to the Government Chemist in Kisumu for toxicology tests. A similar examination is expected on Joseph. Bomet Central Sub-County Police Commander Stephen Kirui said medicines found near her body were collected for analysis.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment

According to Alai, governors who have served more than two terms should not be considered for any appointments. He further emphasized that President Ruto should avoid appointing anyone who has already served as governor for two terms, suggesting that this group should be completely excluded from consideration. This stance has sparked a significant amount of discussion among Kenyans on various social media platforms, with many individuals sharing their perspectives on the issue. Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development.
