A handwritten note kept by Francis Samoei in Uasin Gishu has become a symbol of President William Ruto’s rise from humble beginnings to the highest office in Kenya.
Francis claims he received the note from Ruto in 1983, when they were classmates at Wareng High School. He has preserved it ever since, regarding it as proof of a bond formed in youth.
Now, more than four decades later, Francis hopes to reunite with his former schoolmate. He says he wants to congratulate Ruto personally and reflect on how far they have both come.
The note, which reportedly calls Francis Ruto’s “namesake,” has survived as a relic of innocence before politics, power, and national leadership. For Francis, it is not just paper — it is a reminder that even presidents carry stories from their past.
Whether the reunion happens or not, the story underscores how small gestures from youth can echo across decades, shaping memories and inspiring hope.
