191 Counts of Murder, Over 400 Dead, and a Gap the Verdict Leaves Open

Two numbers sit side by side in the Shakahola verdict, and they do not match. According to the story, Paul Mackenzie, leader of the Good News International Church, was convicted on October 19, 2026, of 191 counts of murder, covering the deaths of 190 children and one adult. The same story says the court found that he and his co-defendants enforced a system of deadly fasting among followers, which led to the deaths of over 400 people in Shakahola Forest.

The gap between 191 and more than 400 is the question the story does not answer. It does not say whether the other deaths are covered by other charges, were not proven to the standard needed for conviction, or are simply the larger toll the court described. It also does not say who the co-defendants are, whether they were convicted, or when sentencing will take place.

What the story does report is the human weight behind the figures. Many families are still reeling from their losses. Dan Mackenzie testified about the dangers of the cult's beliefs and called for urgent intervention, saying he believes some relatives remain under its influence. The ruling, the story adds, has reopened debate on stronger regulation of religious organisations in Kenya.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment

R obert Alai has recently expressed his views on the matter of former governors being appointed by President William Ruto. He further emphasized that President Ruto should avoid appointing anyone who has already served as governor for two terms, suggesting that this group should be completely excluded from consideration. Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development.
