UPDATE: Fire at Kilimani Garage Contained, Cause Still Unknown as Owners Count Losses

Firefighters have contained a major fire that broke out at a garage on Ole Dume Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, early Tuesday, September 8.

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria confirmed the fire is now under control, though teams remained at the scene to fully extinguish it.

The garage, which hosts more than 200 mechanics, was engulfed in flames overnight, destroying several customer vehicles and mechanics' tools.

Mosiria said the county's emergency call centre received a distress call and responded immediately.

"We received a call in our emergency call centre, whereby we dispatched our fire engines," he said.

He said the extent of the loss is still being assessed but preliminary estimates point to millions of shillings in destroyed vehicles and property.

"Millions of money have been lost in terms of the vehicles that have been destroyed in this area," Mosiria said.

The cause of the fire is still not known.

"Ni moto ambao chance yake haijulikani imetokana na nini," he said, adding that experts will investigate.

Mosiria praised mechanics who worked with county firefighters to stop the fire from spreading to nearby properties and thanked residents who raised the alarm.

No injuries have been reported so far.

Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development. This perspective reflects...
