Catholic Priest Attacked, Robbed, and Stripped Near Navuhi in Vihiga County

 LA Catholic priest serving at Buyangu Parish was reportedly attacked, robbed, and stripped of his clothing while walking home at night near Navuhi in Vihiga County.



Fr Emmanuel Mannyata was reportedly confronted by unknown men on his way home after attending a church meeting. According to preliminary reports, the attackers assaulted him before removing his clothes and fleeing with his church garments, leaving him seriously injured at the scene.


The number of attackers involved has not been established, and it remains unclear whether Fr Mannyata was alone at the time. Initial reports point to robbery as a likely motive.


Following the attack, Fr Mannyata was taken to Mukumu Mission Hospital, where he remains admitted while receiving treatment for his injuries.


The incident has left members of Buyangu Parish and the wider community shaken. Fr Mannyata is well known among parishioners for his role in church services and activities at the parish, and news of the attack has spread quickly through the community, with many expressing concern for his condition.


Police are expected to investigate the incident, work to identify those responsible, and determine whether any other belongings were stolen. The attack has also raised broader concerns about safety for people travelling in the area at night.


Fr Mannyata continues to receive treatment as fellow priests, parishioners, and residents await updates on both his recovery and the police investigation.
